Summer has been slow to come here in Utah. With a long winter and lots of snow, we are all dreaming of sunny skies and warm sandy beachy. This month’s Ginger Quilter Box is the a great project to bring on vacation. The best thing about our subscription box is that everything you need is included in the box. You can pack it with you and have a fun project to work on – whether you’re going to a quilting retreat, a family vacation or just a sewing night with friends.
Feeling Crabby Pattern
Did you know a group of crabs is called a consortium? This quilt by Wendy Sheppard features a consortium of crustaceans…isn’t that fun to say? The finished size comes in at 51′ x 58″, which is a great size for playing at the beach or enjoying a picnic. There are some little pieces in this pattern, but don’t worry, I’m going to walk you through making a crab block in our Facebook group. With all the smaller pieces, you might find these quilt block markers helpful to keep everything organized. If you’re not part of the Ginger Quilter Box Facebook group, it’s free to join and I post video tutorials, sneak peeks and more each month! Find the Ginger Quilter Box Facebook group here.
Lost at Sea Fat Quarter Bundle
The Lost at Sea fabric line is by artist Natalia Juan Abello for Riley Blake Designs. It features all kinds of nautical symbols and creatures that fit this box perfectly! With a mix of reds and blues, this could also double as a patriotic quilt. Also included in this box is 2 ⅜ yards white background fabric and border fabric – this project is all ready for you to cut into as soon as your box arrives. I can think of so many fun quilting designs to compliment this adorable fabric! I can’t wait to see how all my subscribers finish their quilts.
Magnetic Seam Guide
This handy little tool helps you get perfect seams every single time. It attaches to the metal plate of your sewing machine and guides the fabric on the outside edge, making sure you aren’t inching over past your seam guide. Most machines come with marking in the metal plate, but having the external guide is so helpful for piecing. Especially for projects like this one, where there are lots of smaller blocks. Keeping the seam allowance consistent, makes your finished blocks uniform. For a complete guide on using this handy notion, check out this article.
Mini sunscreen packets
Have you ever applied sunscreen then left home, only realizing hours later that you need to re-apply? These little sunscreen packets are perfect to keep in your purse or beach bag. You will be so happy you have them on hot summer days when you ran out of sunscreen or forgot to bring extra. This gift is actually meant to keep your from getting sunburnt and “feeling crabby”.
Soft Gummy Sharks
Gummy candy is a favorite in my family. These chewy sharks are a fun treat to bring to the pool or beach because they don’t melt quickly like chocolate. They also look so cute next to the fabric. Our local soda shops use these for fun kids’ drinks but I’ve seen people use them in Jell-O cups for parties too! You can enjoy these while your sewing or save them to make a creative treat for a summer party.
The Feeling Crabby box mixes my love of animal quilts and patriotic colors. Sometimes boxes come together so easily, and this was one of them. The colors, the fabric, the pattern, everything was just a fun summery fit!
